Register for TBBCF’s 17th Annual Walk for a Cure

By MELISSA JOHNSON

Get ready to lace up those sneakers and take steps toward better health for yourself and for breast cancer patients. Registration opens Tuesday, May 10 for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation’s next Walk for a Cure, which is TBBCF’s largest annual fundraising event. This year’s walk will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1, and participation can once again be in-person or virtual. The registration fee is $30 for all participants 12 years and older. Walkers can even form a team!

In-person participants walking the full marathon (26.2 miles) along the designated route on Oct. 1 must commit to raising $500 by the end of the year, $250 for those walking the half marathon (13.1 miles), $200 for those walking the quarter marathon (6.5 miles), or $150 for those completing the 5K (3.1 miles). Virtual participants will walk the distance of their choice on their own time and must raise $150 by the end of the year. Cancer survivors and students aged 12 to 22 are asked to raise $100.

TBBCF Operations Director Kate Davis said, “I am so excited to get registration open! Sharing all aspects of the walk, from registration opening, which is essentially the beginning, and through all of the planning, and finally the big, beautiful day with Stacy the new walk chair, will be very momentum building, and I am hoping that we will have the biggest turnout in the foundation’s history! Once we get registration open, donations really start ramping up, and the hope for a cure gets stronger.”

After registering, each walker gets a T-shirt and a personalized fundraising webpage to share. Every cent of every donation goes directly to breast cancer researchers carefully selected by the foundation’s expert scientific advisory board. TBBCF has raised millions of dollars since 2006, and a cure for breast cancer feels closer every year.

Walk Chair Stacy Tattar, new this year, said, “Thank you to TBBCF for having me as part of this amazing event! As a 2021 walker, it’s really exciting to be behind the scenes now to assist in providing wonderful experiences for the 2022 participants.”

Details for each leg of the marathon, including starting points and times, are being finalized and will be available soon on the TBBCF Walk tab at tbbcf.org.
