In our Volunteer Spotlight series, we want to highlight and acknowledge the amazing volunteers for the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation. First up – Richard and Rayna Dakin.
Richard and Rayna have been long-time volunteers for the Terri Brodeur annual Walk for a Cure.

How long have you been volunteers?
Richard: I just had my 16th year which still makes me a newbie on the Walk Team!
Rayna: I have been volunteering and walking since 2010.
What are your volunteer roles?
Richard: I have always been involved with the Opening and Closing Ceremonies Team, originally working for the great Doug Hoyt then joining him as Co-Captain of the Team about 11 or 12 years ago. With Doug stepping away into another role with the Foundation, I assumed the role of Team Captain this past year.
Rayna: I have been involved with the Training Walks under the tutelage of Anne Rochette for quite a few years. Recently I have taken over the Lunch Lead from the lovely Ellie Corey. Ellie has been heading up the lunch for many years. She has it down to a science and made it seamless for me to take over.
Why do you volunteer with TBBCF?
Richard: After my wife, Rayna’s, diagnosis of breast cancer in 2009 we wanted a way to help with wiping out this terrible disease, and we found the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation. We couldn’t be happier being a small part of this effort.
Rayna: I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and again in 2013. I was fortunate for the discovery through early detection. Also, other family members were diagnosed with not so positive outcomes. When I was walking my mantra was "I walk for those who can't".
What do you enjoy most about volunteering for TBBCF?
Richard: Only one thing? To begin, the incredible sense of friendship and deep teamwork with the entire Walk Team, the gratitude and appreciation of the walkers who cross the finish line and working with our enthusiastic Opening and Closing team volunteers.
Rayna: I have met so many amazing people in this organization. So dedicated and inspiring. It is a family.
Thank you to Richard and Rayna for all you do! We look forward to seeing them at the 21st annual Walk for a Cure on Saturday, October 3, 2026.
