Walk Chair Corner - September 2025

By Eleanor Mariani

The 20th Annual Walk for a Cure is almost here!  We are so excited to see you all on Friday, October 3, at the Vicki G. Duffy Pavilion in Old Saybrook for registration packet pickups, including Walker Bibs and t-shirts, from 5 – 6:30 PM and Saturday morning as you start your walk at your designated location for the Full, Half, or Quarter Marathon, or the 5K fun walk. Parking is available at all the sites, and the routes will be clearly marked.

Please be sure to check your emails for important information from us. You can get Walk directions on the TBBCF Website at https://tbbcf.org/walk-routes-map/

We have you covered!  Volunteers will be available to assist you throughout the day. Our Cycling Team is ready to roll and assist along the route. Our Medical staff will be at every pit stop and at Opening Ceremonies, during lunch at Rocky Neck and at Closing Ceremonies.  Pit stops will be closing on a planned schedule (based on a 20-minute mile). Please check the back of your bib for the closing times.

sweep vehicle will also be available to pick you up should the need arise. Pit stops will be located approximately every three miles along the route. Water, Gatorade, fruit, and snacks will be available along with porta-potties/sink. If you have any special dietary requirements, please plan ahead as we can’t guarantee special foods will be available. If needed, you can shed jackets, hats, etc. at each pit stop and pick up your clothing at Camp Harkness.

Plan to make Closing Ceremonies a “Family Affair”!  We invite your family to Camp Harkness to see you walk through the beautiful finish line arch – signaling the end of your day’s journey and a fabulous photo op! ! Stop by the Recovery Stretch  that will be available on a drop-in, continuous basis between 1:00-4:00 PM at Camp Harkness.  Enjoy the festivities including music by the band Azalea Drive, and fun games for children and adults. Plan on spending some time at the finish and take advantage of the complimentary food and a fun-filled afternoon. We encourage folks to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to relax and hang out ! You won’t want to miss the Closing Ceremony planned for 3:45 PM to cap off the day.

If you are leaving your car and need a ride back to it after the walk, we’ll have two shuttle buses available, departing from Camp Harkness. The first departs at 2:30 PM and the second departs after Closing Ceremonies (approximately 4:15 PM) to return you to the parking lots in Niantic, East Lyme and Old Saybrook.

If you know someone who would like to walk or volunteer on walk day, there is still time!  Please encourage them to come and join us. Online registration for walkers and volunteers will close at 12:00 PM (noon) on Wednesday, October 1, 2025. In Person, Walk-up registration will be available on Friday, October 3 and Saturday, October 4. If registering in person, please bring the registration form along.
