Walk Chair Corner
by Eleanor Mariani

As I enter my second year as the TBBCF Walk Chair and helping to organize the 20th Anniversary Walk on October 4, 2025, I continue to be amazed at the community spirit that both supports and propels the continued successes of the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation Walk for A Cure.
No matter if I am writing to ask permission to utilize the roads in the towns of Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, East Lyme and Waterford, or our start locations, or the nine rest areas that give respite to our walkers, I am met with quick and enthusiastic responses. Most sites have been granting permission to utilize their properties for all 20 years. We greatly appreciate our community of town leaders and police departments, businesses, and churches that continue to support our cause. Last year the priest at St. Ann’s in Old Lyme arranged it so our walkers could have a rest on their beautiful church grounds, even though a wedding was scheduled for that day. We were also thankful to the bride and groom!
The Board of Directors, Procurement Officer, Walk Team Leads and I are working hard to make this 20th Anniversary Walk extra special. We have lots of fun events planned for the Closing Ceremony at Camp Harkness including live music, games, face painting and more.
We have changed the start location of the Half Marathon because, happily, we need more space for that start. Not to worry though, it is just down the street at Birk Manufacturing at 14 Capital Drive, East Lyme. We are looking forward to working with the folks at Birk to make the space functional and convenient for all.
We are pumped that we have 153 walkers signed up as of June 23 of which 25% are first-time walkers!!! We also have 35 volunteers! Don’t miss out on the fun - sign up to walk or volunteer.
