Five Weeks and Counting!
It’s hard to believe, but October 3 is just five weeks away!
Our 21st Walk for A Cure is getting closer every day, and the energy is building. We’ve already had our first training walk, and it was exciting to see walkers getting out there, putting in the miles and encouraging one another along the way.
For those who joined us—keep going! Every training mile you walk now will make October 3 feel that much better. Take advantage of the second training walk on September 12 in beautiful Mystic! There will be 6- and 8-mile loops for a total of 20 miles. Come join the TBBCF community on our supported training walk and select your distance.
If you haven’t registered yet, there is still time—and we want you with us!
It’s Not Too Late to Get Started
You don't need to be a seasoned distance walker. You can pick your distance from a full, half or quarter marathon; a family friendly 5K; or a virtual walk of any distance. You also don't need to have a team of 20 people. And you certainly don't need to have your training plan all figured out.
You just need to take that first step.
Register. Find a friend. Start a team. Go for a walk. Then take another one.
Our training walks are about more than preparing our feet and legs for October 3. They are an opportunity to meet other walkers, share some miles, laugh a little, encourage each other and become part of the amazing community that makes the Walk for A Cure so special.
And, yes, we've talked about blisters and how to avoid them! But a little preparation now can go a long way toward making your Walk Day experience comfortable and enjoyable.
If you are not ready to walk this year, consider volunteering. We need lots of folks to make the walk run smoothly. You can register to volunteer and join us for an amazing and rewarding day.
Five Weeks Can Make a Difference
Think about what you can accomplish in five weeks.
A few walks each week can build your endurance. A new team member can bring new energy to your team. An invitation to a friend might be the reason someone decides to participate for the first time.
Every walker matters. Every team matters. Every mile matters.
Our 21st walk not only begins a new decade but also a new chapter in our quest to stomp out breast cancer—and I want you to be part of it.
So, if you've been thinking about registering either as a walker or volunteer - this is your sign.
If you've already registered, invite someone to join you.
If you're a team captain, reach out to your team and get everyone walking.
And if you're wondering whether you can do it, remember: you don't have to walk the entire journey today. You just have to take the first step.
Five weeks.
Let's make every one of them count.
I'll see you on the road—and on October 3 at the finish line!
