Devoted volunteer, breast cancer survivor Shelley Gregory, named to TBBCF board
by ELLYN SANTIAGO
Shelley Gregory will go to any lengths for the people, causes, and work she loves. She’ll scale mountains for her children and family. She’ll dive into the ocean's depths for her work (literally). And, she’ll walk marathon after marathon (after marathon) for a breast cancer cure.
The breast cancer survivor and a top Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation’s Walk For The Cure fundraiser, Shelley was recently named to the Foundation’s board.
“I always knew I wanted to become more involved with TBBCF, and being on the board was a dream. I’ve been on the communications team for a year-plus, but now I have an opportunity to really make a difference. I want to be a productive, active, and worthwhile member. I’m lucky there are so many mentors I can look to, people who work tirelessly, and selflessly. They’re an inspiration.”
A spirited and devoted volunteer
A former advertising executive, she has spent much of her life giving back.
After her brother and father died in hospice, she volunteered at Middlesex Hospital … until COVID-19 hit.
When her adult sons were young, she “volunteered extensively in their school” and held positions on the PTO. She was also on the Lymes’ Youth Service Bureau and Lyme-Old Lyme Education Foundation boards.
She’s on the board of a non-profit, private family foundation dedicated to education, medical research, free speech, and national defense. And, she’s a board member of a “production company and talent incubator that creates high-impact films designed to entertain, inspire, and educate audiences with captivating stories about human freedom.”
For TBBCF, Shelley has been a very active volunteer and recently was the heart and force behind the well-read Survivor Series.
“They mean so much to me. Everybody’s story is similar but very different. They just mean so much to me,” she said. “I hope they have helped others who are dealing with breast cancer. It’s like having a support group every month.”
Shelley has an impressive and singular work history. She’s worked for Gregg Cook, entrepreneur, founder, and co-founder of myriad businesses including Submergence Group and marine research and exploration non-profit ProMare, for the last 25 years, “managing several of his business endeavors in many capacities.”
For the last 16 years, she’s been Submergence Group’s Senior Administrative Manager. With its sister company in the UK, it specializes in the design, production, manufacture, and operation of manned and unmanned submersibles for military and commercial markets.
Shelley also sits on the non-profit marine research corporation’s board of directors.
